Authentic Greek Salad

Authentic Greek Salad

Greek Salad or Horiatiki salad is a popular salad in Greek cuisine generally made with pieces of tomatoes, cucumbers, onion, feta cheese, and olives and dressed with salt, pepper, Greek oregano, and olive oil. Common additions include green bell pepper.

Greek Salad is really a great side to any BBQ, not just Greek BBQ. It’s very easy to make and bursting with flavour! I would highly recommend getting some Kalamata Olives for this recipe though!

Ingredients

  • 3 medium 3 Ripe Tomatoes

  • 1 1 Cucumber

  • 1 1 Green Bell Pepper

  • 1/2 1/2 Red Onion

  • 1 hamdful 1 Kalamata Olives

  • 1 block 1 Feta Cheese

  • 4 Tbsp 4 Extra Virgin Olive OIl

  • 3 Tbsp 3 Red Wine Vinegar

  • 1/2 Tbsp 1/2 Dried Oregano

  • 1 pinch 1 Flaky Sea Salt

Directions

  • Partially peel the cucumber, halve and slice. Peel and quarter the onion and finely slice. Slice the pepper while still whole, removing the pith, and roughly chop the tomatoes.
  • If your olives aren’t pitted, remove the stones by carefully running a small knife around the olives, splitting into two and pulling out the stones. This will leave you with halved olives, but that’s fine and better than a broken tooth!
Make the dressing by mixing together the olive oil, red wine vinegar (or lemon juice), dried oregano and salt, in a small bowl.
  • Arrange your salad on a large serving plate, and top with the olives and large chunks of the feta.
Drizzle over the dressing and serve.
